Ansø of Denmark blev grundlagt i 2001. Markedet er globalt, og Jens Ansø sælger rigtig mange knive i bl.a. USA, men fundamentet har dybe rødder i den jyske muld. Alle knivene bliver designet og skabt i Jens Ansøs værksted i et gammelt mejeri uden for Hammel.
I dag tæller Ansø of Denmark en lille håndfuld ansatte, inklusive Jens Ansøs hustru, Karina Baglioni Ansø, der bl.a. tager sig af planlægning, pakning og kommunikation. I dag er Ansø of Denmark en familievirksomhed, der drives med stor passion og med blik for, at alle dele af produkterne skal være af højeste kvalitet.
After finishing his studies as an industrial designer in 2001 Jens Ansø set out to become a fulltime knife maker with his own brand, Ansø of Denmark. All of his designs are rooted in a profound respect and passion for the Danish design tradition; the main principles are simplicity, detail and an emphasis on function rather than shape.
Jens Ansø is well-known by knife connoisseurs all over the world. In the US his popularity has grown exponentially with quite a few knife lovers collecting his elegant and functional folding knives for years. Jens Ansø has also been designing knives for some of the world’s leading knife producers in The US, Germany, and Italy. Through this work he has explored the art of creating kitchen knives, completing three series before making his own, NJORD.
In 2019 Jens Ansø created NJORD - a series of kitchen knives combining the noble art of Japanese craft with timeless Danish design. The goal was to make functional and beautiful knives that can be used and valued equally by both professional chefs and home cooks who appreciate inspiring tools that contain profound aesthetic qualities.
The urban chaos of New York. Classic Japanese movies. Boyhood dreams of old cars and tools. Classical Danish furniture of the 1950s. To Jens, inspiration comes from a large variety of sources. He’s deeply fascinated by Danish wooden chairs made by furniture design icons such as Hans Wegner and Børge Mogensen. The wooden material transforms with use over time, almost becoming one with its owner – and to Jens Ansø the process of patina and age has an extreme beauty to it.
NJORD is inspired, not just by creating the perfect kitchen knife, but by bringing forth a reality – forged from wood and steel – upon which Jens has created his life, philosophy, and business.
